Abstract

The present study was conducted to determine the effect of soya bean meal replaced with moringa seed meal diet on growth performance, economics of production, and egg parameters of Japanese quail. One hundred (100) Japanese quails were used in this experiment. The birds were randomly allotted to five treatment diets of two replicate with ten birds per replicate. Five experimental diets were formulated such that soya bean meals were replaced with moringa seed meals at 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40% levels. Birds were fed for a period of fifty six (56) days and were supplied with water and drugs. Results showed that inclusion of moringa seed meal in Japanese quail diet did not influence feed intake, weight gain, feed gain ratio and feed efficiency. Cost per kg feed reduced with increased moringa seed meal in the diet. Birds fed 20% level of soya bean meal replaced with moringa seed meal showed the least price in Naira, however, the value is not statistically different from the control. No significant difference was observed in egg weight, egg length, egg width, egg yolk weight, egg shape index and egg albumen weight of birds fed with experimental diets. However, egg shell weight, egg shell percentage and egg albumen percentage were influenced by the diets.
